Stoves come in many types and can burn a variety of fuels. A wood and coal stove is primarily used for warming a space, and needs to be vented to outside the house. Install a wood and coal stove by first placing the vent pipe or chimney hole through a wall in your house.

Instructions

  1. Placement of Stove

    • 1

Determine the minimum clearances for the stove in your home. The stove will need 13 inches from the side and 18 inches in front of a combustible wall.

    • 2

Measure out 18 inches from the back wall, where the vent pipe or chimney is located, and place the stove on the floor.

    • 3

Observe the location of the stove to see if there are any obstacles that will be in the way. Move pieces of furniture to create an open area for the stove.

    • 4

Measure from the top of the vent pipe or chimney hole to the ceiling. You will need at least 18 inches of space between the pipe and the ceiling.

    Connect to Chimney

    • 5

Insert the crimped end of one piece of the chimney connector into the vent hole in the top of the stove. Secure the piece of chimney connector to the stove with sheet metal screws using the power drill.

    • 6

Attach additional pieces of chimney connector until you reach the height of the vent pipe or chimney hole. Secure the pieces of chimney connector with the sheet metal screws.

    • 7

Attach a chimney connector that has a 90-degree bend with the sheet metal screws. This will allow you to connect the remaining piece of chimney connector to the wall.

    • 8

Attach an additional section of chimney connector to the bend and the vent pipe or chimney hole in the wall. Secure the last section with the sheet metal screws.
