Unroll the liner on the ground. Instruct your assistant to hold one end of the liner in place with his foot while you walk along the liner, uncoiling it. Insert the T connector, also known as the bottom connector, into one end of the liner to help keep it flat. The T connector is included in your chimney liner kit.
Lay the insulation that came with your chimney kit flat on the ground next to the unrolled liner. Place the liner on top of the insulation.
Spray a 2- or 3-foot section of the liner and insulation with spray adhesive, then wrap the insulation around the liner. The insulation will overlap by an inch or two. Continue to glue and wrap the liner over the insulation until all of the insulation is covering the liner.
Pull the mesh sleeve (provided with the kit) over the insulated liner. Secure the mesh at the end of the liner with the connector using the hose clamp from the kit. Pull down the sleeve so it covers the entire liner.
Attach another hose clamp from the kit to the unsecured end of the liner to hold the mesh in place. You can trim away the excess sleeve with tin clippers.
Have your assistant insert the bottom snout into the fireplace opening, and ask them to stay there to watch it. The snout is the piece that holds the bottom hose clamp, and it will attach to the T connector and keep it in place.
Pass the liner down the chimney, with the T connector going in first. Keep pushing the liner down until your friend says the T connector enters the bottom snout at the opening in the fireplace. Tighten the hose clamp of the snout to secure the T connector in place.
Place the chimney crown over the top of the liner on the roof. The crown is the decorative collar that goes around the end of the liner and holds it in place. Saw the excess part of the liner that is sticking out of the chimney crown.
Lift up the chimney crown and apply a thick bead of caulk from a caulk gun. The caulk should run along the underside edge of the crown to hold it down to the chimney. Press the crown into the caulk and tighten the hose clamp around the liner.
Slide the cap onto the top of the chimney crown and tighten it in place with the hose clamp around the base of the cap.
