What Stovepipe Do I Need for a Vogelzang Boxwood Stove?

Using the wrong stovepipe for wood-burning stoves can result in a house fire. The term "boxwood stove" describes free-standing, rectangular cast-iron stoves that burn wood fuel only and require venting sytems for high-temperature gases and smoke. Vogelzang makes three types of boxwood stoves: Standard, Deluxe,and Lit'l Sweetie.

  1. Material and Size

    • All three Vogelzang boxwood stove models use round, 6-inch diameter stovepipe of 24 MSG (minimum standard gauge) black steel or 26 MSG blue steel, or thicker. Stovepipe is not included with new Vogelzang boxwood stoves, though it is commonly available at hardware stores or building centers.

    Elbow Joints

    • Use 6-inch diameter elbow joints of the same material: 24 MSG black or 26 MSG blue steel, or thicker. When possible, choose corrugated (nonadjustable) elbows, as they provide a better seal. Connect the stovepipe sections together using 3 sheet metal screws at each joint.

    Warning

    • Do not use galvanized stovepipe or connect a wood-burning stove to an aluminum Type B gas vent or any air distribution or duct system. Always connect stovepipe to a chimney venting to the outside and never use single-wall stovepipe as a chimney.
