How to Insulate Front-Mounted Fireplace Doors

Fireplace doors are an essential part of any fireplace. The doors keep kids and pets out and keep ash and smoke in while you have a fire burning in your fireplace. Fireplace door installation includes installing insulation around the doors. Insulation in fireplace doors helps to keep smoke from seeping between the cracks in the front-mounted doors into your home. The insulation can also help to keep an attractive finish on your doors. Without insulation, your front-mounted fireplace doors can become damaged from the heat.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of gloves. The gloves will protect your hands as you work with the fiberglass insulation.

    • 2

Locate the insulation that comes with the fireplace doors. Unroll the insulation on the floor.

    • 3

Tear off pieces of the fiberglass insulation with your hands. It should rip easily, but use a pair of scissors to cut the insulation if it does not. Push the insulation into the three channels that surround the fireplace door. The insulation doesn't need to stay fluffy to be effective.

    • 4

Check around the fireplace door channels to make sure the insulation fills them without protruding out the back of the door.
