How to Mount a Flat Screen on a Fireplace Mantel

Flat screen TVs can be mounted on nearly any solid surface, and that includes the brick, stone or cement your fireplace mantel is made out of. The only fireplace mantel material that should not be used for TV mounting is mortar, as its solidity can vary. If you have a large fireplace mantel and you want to mount your flat screen TV there, all you need is a few additional supplies to go along with your TV mounting kit.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat screen TV wall mounting kit
  • Pencil or pen
  • Power drill with masonry drill bit
  • Plastic anchors
  • Screwdriver
  • Zip ties
  • Twist ties
  • Staple gun
  • Masking tape

Connect the TV bracket included with the wall mounting kit to the back of your flat screen TV, using the included screws and a screwdriver, and then connect the TV bracket to the wall-mount bracket on your fireplace mantel. It should click in place and include a screw for securing the two pieces together.

Route your TV cords on the wall to your audio/video devices to complete the process of mounting your flat screen TV to your fireplace mantlel. If necessary, use zip ties, twist ties, a staple gun and/or masking tape to secure the cords to the wall so they don't get too close to your fireplace.
