Measure the chimney from the floor of the hearth to the top of the flue. Make certain your flue liner is at least this long before you install.
Feed the liner down from the top of the chimney through the damper and into the fireplace hearth area. The liner should not protrude above the chimney but be level with it.
Attach a stove connector to the bottom of the liner, which should be inside the fireplace cavity.
Position the insert inside the fireplace and attach the stove connector to the stove collar, which is at the top middle of the fireplace insert.
Level the insert using the rear adjusting legs of the insert.
Add flashing to the chimney's exterior, fitting the flashing over the chimney flue liner. Flashing is a pliable metal strip and is used on roofs wherever there is a joint to help form a waterproof barrier. Cut and fit the flashing over the chimney sides to seal the seam between the flue and the chimney. Securely position the flashing in place and screw the flashing to the flue liner. Caulk around the flashing to create a watertight seal.
Add a rain cap to the top of the liner.
Identify and lay out the horizontal and side pieces of the surround. Fasten these pieces together with the provided bolts and nuts.
Lift this assembled piece upright and make certain the front lies flat and even.
Assemble the three brass trim pieces using the provided hardware, forming an inverted "U" shape. Insert the corner connector in place on the back side of the brass trim and secure it by tightening the screws.
Slide the brass trim into place over the surround and tighten the screws at the bottom of the trim pieces.
Loosen the two bolts on the stove that are holding the ashlip piece into place. The ashlip is the top front piece of the insert, which protrudes slightly from the insert. It provides a level of protection against hot ash escaping from the firebox into the room. Remove the ashlip and set aside.
Remove the screws holding the front panels of the stove and set these pieces aside.
Slide the surround into the tabs on the inside of the outer casing on the stove. Push the surround into place and fasten with two screws on each side.
Slide the stove and surround into the hearth area until the surround rests snugly up against the fireplace.
Add the stove's top decorative piece onto the firebox top. Line up the slots and secure into place with nuts.
Replace the front panels and the ashlip on the stove.
