How to Stain and Paint a Brick Veneer Floor

Brick veneer is usually made of a layer of actual brick, halved in thickness and permanently affixed to a substrate which is affixed to the floor. Treating a brick veneer requires the same techniques used on a true brick floor -- a lint-free brush and a latex-based paint, thinned with water for a "white-washed" stain effect, or used full strength to paint. Be aware, however, that any paint applied to a high traffic area such as a floor will require periodic touch-ups.

Instructions

    • 1

Wet old rags and wipe brick veneer floor clean. If floor is very soiled, use a floor cleaner and a mop before spot cleaning with a rag.

    • 2

Vacuum the brick veneer floor using the shop vac to remove any residual dust, dirt or debris.

    • 3

Pour the latex paint into the bucket, if a stain effect is desired. Thin the paint with water, stirring with the dowel, and test for opacity on a small area of the veneer. Thin with additional water for less coverage. When desired opacity is achieved, pour stain into the paint tray. For the full coverage of paint, do not thin at all. Pour paint into paint tray.

    • 4

Apply the stain or paint to the brick using the roller. Touch up grooves and other textured areas using the using the nylon brush.

    • 5

Allow stain or paint to dry for 12 to 24 hours.
