How to Paint a Brick Fireplace Chocolate Brown

Paint can transform a tired or outdated brick fireplace. White is a common color for newly repainted brick fireplaces. Homeowners who want a different look can explore their options with other paint colors. Chocolate brown latex paint will add depth and beauty that you cannot achieve with white paint. After the fireplace has been painted, you should wait three or four weeks placing items on or leaning anything against the brick. This is because latex paint can take up to a month to cure completely.

Instructions

    • 1

Protect the floors and furnishing around the fireplace by laying down drop cloths. The drop cloths will catch paint splatters from ruining your floor or furnishings.

    • 2

Scrub the brick fireplace with a scrub brush, soap, and water. Cleaning the fireplace will remove soot, loose debris, or old flaking paint from the brick. Let the brick fireplace dry.

    • 3

Apply primer to the bricks with a paintbrush and small paint roller. Use the paint roller to paint the front of the brick fireplace and the paintbrush to paint the crevices between the bricks. Let the primer dry completely.

    • 4

Apply the chocolate brown latex paint to the brick fireplace. Again, use the small paint roller to paint the front flat area of the fireplace. The paintbrush should then be used to reach between the bricks. Let the first coat of paint dry and then paint additional coats of chocolate brown paint onto the fireplace as needed.
