How to Attach an Indoor Firebox to Existing Ductwork

The firebox of an indoor fireplace is where you actually see the fire being produced. It will typically sit on a base and connect to the outside through a duct that goes through a wall. Installing a new fireplace is a difficult process if you haven't done it before, but one of the easiest steps is attaching the firebox to the ductwork, especially if that ductwork already exists.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the gas to the fireplace and disconnect the firebox from the gas supply.

    • 2

Remove the screws that attach the termination piece, on the outside wall, to the duct. Removing the termination piece allows you to adjust the duct.

    • 3

Go back inside and remove the duct from the wall; it will simply pull out because it's no longer connected to the termination piece.

    • 4

Fit the duct around the connection exiting the firebox. Twist the duct clockwise until it locks into place.

    • 5

Set the firebox into its location with the duct going through the hole in the wall.

    • 6

Go back outside and re-attach the termination piece to the outside wall.
