How to Install Chrome Surround on Limestone

Limestone is a common choice for low-cost fireplace surrounds. One attractive way of dressing up these mantels is to install chrome surrounds. These pre-cut trim pieces come in the common limestone mantel sizes of 36, 47, and 54 inches. Mounting trim is done in a few different ways, but once complete, it transforms the simple white or tan mantelpiece into something more visually interesting.

Things You'll Need

  • Chrome mantel trim kit
  • Painter's tape
  • Silicone adhesive (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the chrome trim pieces at the location they will be installed. Verify a proper fit prior to committing to the final install.

    • 2

Press-fit the clips on the chrome surround to the inner flange of the limestone, working with the vertical pieces first.

    • 3

Tape the limestone around the section where the surround sections are slated for installation. This must be done if clips are not included or if the fireplace mantel will not accept the clips. Apply a zig-zag bead of silicone adhesive to the back of the chrome trim sections.

    • 4

Press the pieces in place around the inner opening of the limestone mantel. Work with the vertical sections first. Make final adjustments quickly, prior to the adhesive setting.

    • 5

Peel off the painter's tape once you are satisfied with the final placement of the chrome surround kit.
