How to Install Aluminum Soffit on a Gambrell Roof

Gambrel roofs, also called a Dutch gambrel roof, are often used on barns and homes in the U.S. Unlike other roofs, the gambrel roof has more of a rounded top. If your gambrel roof has rafters that overhang the side of the house, then it can also have a soffit -- the board placed between the house’s siding and the fascia board to cover the rafters. Aluminum soffit boards are handy since they don’t need replacing like wooden soffits do. It’s best to use a ventilated aluminum soffit to provide proper airflow to your home’s attic.

Instructions

Place the F-channels against your home so they are sticking out with the notched edge facing away from your house. The channel should be parallel to your fascia board’s channel. Space the F-channels apart by 6 to 8 feet along the perimeter of you home.

Measure the space between your home’s siding and the roof truss. This is the width of soffit board you need.

Slide the aluminum soffit board into the F-channel. Nail the soffit to the roof truss with the hammer. Space the nails apart by 5 to 6 inches. Repeat the process until all the soffit boards are nailed to the gambrel roof truss.

Fit the fascia board over the roof truss and the aluminum soffit. Nail the fascia to the front of the roof truss with nails spaced every 8 to 10 inches. Hammer nails on the underside of the fascia board to the soffit with the nails spaced evenly every 6 to 8 inches.
