Measure the surface area of your roof to order the correct number of panels in the correct sizes. To find the area, multiply the width times the height of one slope, then multiply that number by two. Use an angle finder to find the pitch of your roof. Take this information to a Pro-Panel II distributor and order the flashing and panels for your roof.
Roll 30-pound felt paper over the roof. Overlap the layers of felt paper to the length specified by your building codes, panel warranty or by 3 inches. Staple the felt paper to the roof with a staple gun.
Install eave flashing along the eave edges, or bottom edges, of the roof slope. Attach the flashing so that the bottom edge of the flashing overlaps with your gutters, if you have them. Use wood screws with washers. Overlap pieces of flashing by 2 inches and seal the overlapping edges by placing tape sealant across the width of the lower piece of flashing.
Attach inside-closure foam strips in a line over the top of the flashing, then place a bead of butyl tape sealant over the top of the strip.
Place the first panel on the left-hand side of the first roof slope. Overlap the bottom edge of the panel with the eave of the roof by 3/4 inch. Use a drill to screw the panel into the roof with wood screws with washers, installed to the right of every raised ridge in the panel. There should be a horizontal row of screws across the bottom, middle and top of the panel. Finish each row of screws by installing an extra screw to the left of the last raised ridge in the panel.
Position the second panel so the high ridges on the left-hand side of the panel are overlapping with the high ridges of the first panel. Screw the two edges of the panels together using stitch screws with washers. Install one screw at the bottom, one in the middle and one in the top of the overlapping sections. Then screw the second panel to the roof with the same method you used for the first panel, with a row of screws across the bottom, middle and top of the panel.
Install all panels in this way across the slope of the roof, then install panels in this way across the opposing slope.
Apply a bead of butyl tape sealant on the panels along the gable edges of the roof. The gable edges are the sides of the roof that form a 90-degree angle with the wall beneath the roof.
Install gable flashing over the butyl tape sealant on the gable edges of the roof. Overlap pieces of flashing by 2 inches and seal the overlapping edges by placing tape sealant across the width of the lower piece of flashing. Install the flashing with wood screws with washers every 12 inches.
Install foam outside-closure strips to the top edge of the panels where the two slopes meet at a peak in the middle, then place a bead of butyl tape sealant over the top of the strips.
Install the peak flashing over the top of the roof where the two slopes meet. Place the flashing on top of the strips and sealant you installed in Step 10. Screw the flashing to the panels below with wood screws with washers placed every 12 inches. Overlap pieces of flashing by 2 inches and seal the overlapping edges by placing tape sealant across the width of the lower piece of flashing.
