Take the awning out of the packaging and lay it flat. Inventory all the pieces to make sure none are missing. Make yourself familiar with the components of the awning, such as the trim edges and rafters.
Slide the top trim piece partway off the awning. Attach the edge rafter to the top trim. It is a snug fit, so you may have to use a hammer to tap it into position.
Slide all of the awning slats into the groove on the edge rafter. Secure them into place with the included screws. Attach the edge rafter and slats on the other side of the awning.
Put the center rafter into place on the underside of the awning. Secure with included screws. If your kit comes with support clips for the center rafter, install them now. They press into place where the metal slats interlock.
Install the mounting bar above the window. You can place this bar up to 6 inches above the window, depending on the coverage you want. Use the ladder to reach above the window comfortably. Center the bar over the window and check for level. Screw into place using the included hardware and the drill with a screwdriver bit.
Caulk along the top edge of the mounting bar. If your awning has side brackets or panels, attach them to the awning while the caulk is setting.
Place the top trim edge of the awning into the mounting bar. Align the holes in the trim edge with the holes on the mounting bar. Secure with screws. Set the awning side brackets against the house and secure with the large screws.
