How to Clear for Windmills

Windmills are an alternative method for producing energy. The benefit of wind energy is that it produces no harmful emissions. Installing a windmill system on your land will cost about $40,000. You must clear the land of any trees, however, before you can install a windmill. To find out how much space you need, add at least 33 feet to the length of the windmill blades. This is the distance from the windmill you need to clear in all directions.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place a stake where the windmill will be placed. Use a tape measure to determine the distance you calculated -- length of blade plus at least 33 feet, in front, behind and to the left and right of the windmill. Mark these points with stakes.

    • 2

Bulldoze any trees located within the staked area. Use the bucket to topple them. Then use it to dig up the stump. and place it aside.

    • 3

Pile up the toppled trees and stumps using the bucket to move them after all the trees have been downed.

    • 4

Chip the trees using a wood chipper. Cut up the stumps using a chain saw so that the pieces will fit in the wood chipper. Then use the chipped wood to fill in the holes left by digging up the stumps.
