Painting Over Vinyl-Sided Andersen Windows

Vinyl-sided Andersen windows have vinyl trim that can fade over time. If this happens to your window’s trim, it makes your home look old and unkempt. Slapping a fresh coat of paint on the trim brings your windows back to life. Painting vinyl is the same as painting most surfaces; however, you shouldn’t paint the Andersen window trim darker than its original color or it could cause the trim to warp due to heat accumulation. Andersen has paint chips that will allow you to match the original color of your window trim.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the vinyl trim of the Andersen windows with a mixture of one part water and one part vinegar. Scrub the window trim well, and rinse it off. Allow the trim to dry.

    • 2

Sand the trim down gently with 200-grit sandpaper. Sand the trim until it’s dull.

    • 3

Lay the drop cloth under the window, and place tape around the outside of the frame and around the inside of the frame on the glass.

    • 4

Paint the frame with a medium-sized paintbrush. Start with the top of the trim, and paint down and around to the bottom of the trim. Allow the paint to dry completely, and add another coat.
