Choose rainbow-colored tiles for the pool’s interior. The colors of a rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet in that order. Visit a pool builder's showroom or office and view the tile selections and manufacturers available. Start at one end of the pool with red and end at the other end of the pool with violet. Place tiles at the pool’s bottom or continue them up the pool’s sides. Applying rainbow-colored tiles so that they travel up the sides and over the pool’s lip brings the color onto the pool deck area and gives a hint of what awaits them once they dive in.
Choose rainbow-colored tiles for the exterior area surrounding the pool. Already installed pools can look like a rainbow by placing rainbow-colored tile across the pool deck. Circle the area around the pool with the colorful tiles. Choose a tiling width allowing you to include a few rows of each color for a stronger visual impact. Tiles with slip resistance are important along the pool’s edges.
Use a pool shape resembling a rainbow’s curved shape and apply rainbow-colored interior pool tiles. The standard kidney-shape pool is a good choice for a rainbow-shaped pool. Check with local pool installers for a diagram of the shapes they work with. Each manufacturer will have a shape selector. Take the pool design a step further by extending the rainbow colors to the pool-deck area. Custom pool shapes can be specified but cost more to produce and install.
Use pool paint to replicate the rainbow on the pool’s interior surface. Consult with a paint expert and choose the pool paint that works best for your needs. Pool paint can be found in epoxy, a rubber and acrylic bases. Each type paint has a different lifespan and maintenance requirements. Pool paint is made in a minimal number of color choices and may require expert mixing to achieve a rainbow palette. Application requires draining the pool, cleaning the interior surface and 48 hours of drying time before refilling the pool. Adding the pool paint around the pool deck only is an option.
