Polyurethane foam insulation fills up cracks and voids in walls and around windows, cutting down on drafts and increasing the energy efficiency of a home. You can buy this product in convenient spray cans at any home improvement store, or for larger jobs you can rent more heavy-duty equipment that dispenses polyurethane foam insulation from a reusable pressurized tank. Instructions

    • 1

Insert the nozzle of the spray can or hose into the space between a window frame and rough opening, between ceiling joists, into wall cavities or any other location where heat is being lost from your home.

    • 2

Apply enough polyurethane foam insulation to fill approximately half of the area. As the foam expands, it will completely fill the void before hardening and becoming permanent.

    • 3

Leave the foam for 24 hours to cure completely. Slice off any excess foam that is protruding from the wall cavity using a sharp utility knife.
