How Do I Install a Sloan Tempering Valve?

Sloan Valve makes a variety of plumbing products, used mainly in commercial restrooms. Sloan sensor-activated faucets conserve water, and make washing your hands in a public facility more sanitary. Because touch-free faucets control the temperature of the water for you, an optional manual or thermostatic tempering valve is recommended to prevent scalding. Also called mixing valves, the devices are commonly installed beneath the sink near the water supply cut-offs. The valves are available with compression fittings that will also work with flexible supply lines.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the hot and cold water supplies. Place a plastic bucket under the water supply valves to catch any leaks.

    • 2

Locate the standard Bak-Chek tee that was installed with the faucet. Loosen the tee outlet line and two water supply lines with an adjustable wrench. Remove the tee.

    • 3

Remove the old compression sleeves from the three copper water lines by cutting the lines as close to the sleeves as possible with a tubing cutter. Slide the old compression nuts off. Install the new nuts and sleeves provided with the mixing valve on each line.

Identify the hot and cold inlets on the mixing valve. Connect each water supply line to the appropriate side of the mixing valve. Tighten with an adjustable wrench. Connect the mixing valve outlet to the faucet supply line and tighten. Turn on the hot and cold water and check for leaks.

Activate the faucet by waving your hand in front of the sensor. Check the temperature of the water with a thermometer. Change the temperature by loosening the screw on the mixing valve and moving the adjustment plate. Tighten the screw when finished.
