Solar Power Components

Homeowners, businesses and the government can use solar energy to save money on utilities and conserve energy. Solar energy converts the sun's energy to produce electricity for homes, companies and a host of other things. Besides the energy of the sun, these solar-powered products have other components that help convert the energy to make things work efficiently.
  1. Photovoltaic Cells

    • Photovoltaic cells can offer large and small quantities of power for a variety of things, such as the electric grid and wristwatches. Manufacturers produce photovoltaic cells from semiconductors such as skinny-filmed materials or crystalline silicon. These cells changes solar energy into electricity.

    Solar Water Heating Systems

    • Commercial, residential and industrial areas can use solar water heaters to heat a multitude of spaces. Low-temperature collectors, a component of solar heating system, take the sun's energy, and the heating system uses the heat to warm areas and water.

    Concentrating Solar Power

    • Parabolic troughs, dishes and central power towers use concentrating solar power. Reflective material focuses the heat from the sun to power generators to create electricity.

    Solar Power Stations

    • A solar power station can power many appliances around the house, such as televisions, game consoles, office equipment and power tools. Homeowners can install a solar power station without the assistance of a licensed electrician and the unit can move from place to place when the owner desires. The solar power station comes equipped with components, such as a solar panel, a charger controller, inverter and a battery.

    Solar Models

    • Most people think a remote control is the only way to power model cars, airplanes and helicopters. However, some manufacturers produce model cars powered by solar energy. Some solar-powered models connect via plywood that pushes together in pre-cut slots without any glue. The main components of solar model are miniature solar panels and a small motor. The model uses the energy from the sun or light from a desk lamp to work, such as flying or turning a windmill.
