Solar Cell Soldering Instructions

Solar panels function by conducting energy through delicately soldered connections between their components. When making your own solar panels, you will need to solder solar cells to each other, in series. This is not difficult, but requires some finesse with the soldering gun to avoid breaking or cracking the solar cells.

Instructions

    • 1

Start out with just two cells upside down. Lay the solder tabs of one cell across the solder points of the other.

    • 2

Touch the soldering iron to the solder, melting it. Allow solder to drip over the solder tab and point of the two solder cells, fusing the two together. Repeat for all other solar cells to be connected together.

    • 3

Allow soldered connections to dry for an hour or more before attempting to move or power your device.
