How to Insulate a Wall for Winter

Insulation helps keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer when the air conditioner is running. Insulation is often installed between the wall studs underneath the drywall. In some areas of your home where the walls aren't finished, such as your garage or shed, it can become extremely hot during the summer or cold during the winter, which makes for very difficult working conditions. Insulating these walls can help reduce the extreme temperatures.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling.

    • 2

Unroll the insulation and cut it with a utility knife to fit the length needed.

    • 3

Slide the insulation into the gaps between the wall studs with the exposed fiberglass facing away from you. Do not press the insulation in; let it expand to accommodate the space. If there are any objects, such as electrical outlets or switches, in the wall, cut a hole in the fiberglass to accommodate them.

Staple the paper to the inside of the studs every 6 inches.
