This may seem like a lot of money, but if you plan to be in your home for a while, the investment will eventually pay off. People with residential wind generators see a savings of 65 to 75 percent on their energy bills.

    Disadvantages

    • There are some disadvantages to using wind generators as a source of electricity. For one thing, zoning rules usually require a relatively large plot of land for the wind generator. More than an acre is typically needed. Another disadvantage is the fact that the wind does not always blow. Thus, a backup source of electricity is necessary. Wind generators are best suited for homeowners who do not use a great deal of electricity on a regular basis.
