Educational Display Ideas to Conserve Energy

Many people are interested in green building practices and other energy-saving options. An educational display that shows the benefits of saving energy would be useful for those who attend county fairs, home and garden shows, and other events where promoting energy conservation would be appropriate.
  1. LIghting

    • One of the simplest ways to conserve energy in the home is to change the type of lighting used. Compact fluorescent light bulbs should be a part of any educational display related to energy. The bulbs can be left in boxes and creatively stacked like a small tower. Include information on energy savings that will be realized as a result of switching to compact fluorescent bulbs.

    Energy-Efficient Appliances

    • Another energy display idea is to feature energy-efficient appliances. Appliances with the Energy Star rating are designed to save energy. If the display consists of panels on a board, photos of the appliances with explanations of their energy saving features would be sufficient. However, if the budget and space allow, real appliances could be displayed. An appliance retailer might be willing to lend a couple of small Energy Star appliances for such a display.

    Xeriscaping

    • Xeriscaping is a type of landscaping that conserves water. It is typically used in areas where it is difficult to grow plants that require heavy watering to remain lush and green. Xeriscaping features succulent plants like cacti and other low-water varieties. These plants could act as decorative elements for a display while serving as an example of landscaping that conserves water.

    Water-Saving Features

    • Water-saving features such as low-flow showerheads would be practical items that could be featured in an educational display on energy conservation. Posters of washing machines that use less water, as well as water-saving toilets, can be mounted on exhibit boards with information regarding how much water is saved by replacing older models with new water-saving models. This information can be obtained from the manufacturers.
