Measure the length of the duct fan's housing so that you'll know how much duct to remove to install the fan. You will notice on one end of the housing that the metal is crimped, while the other end is smooth. Measure from the edge of the smooth end to just before the crimped metal.
Locate the duct where the fan will be installed. You can position it anywhere along the line of duct work that you want, but it is easier to install it near the furnace, where you can easily route the wiring to the furnace's thermostat.
Cut out the duct where the fan is to be installed using tin snips. The amount of duct you cut out should be equal to the measurement you took previously.
Insert the crimped end of the fan duct into the area of the duct that you cut out, and then make certain that the fan duct housing is securely fitted in place. Note the air flow direction indicated on the fan's duct housing. Make certain that the arrow points away from the furnace and toward the heat registers.
Rotate the fan duct housing until the electrical wires are positioned near the furnace's thermostat control board.
Locate the power fan output terminals on your furnace thermostat control board. If necessary, refer to your furnace's owner's manual to determine the location of these terminals. Connect the wiring from the duct fan to the control board, and then tuck any excess wire out of the way to complete the installation process.
