Applying Rigid Pink Foam to a Basement Interior

Insulating a concrete basement wall can make your home more energy-efficient, and is a must if you're going to finish the basement. When you have a bare concrete wall to insulate, you can use rigid foam insulation. This type of insulation is manufactured in foam boards, and sticks directly to the wall. This insulation can be white, blue or pink, depending on the manufacturer.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the walls with a powerwasher, then allow them to dry overnight. The adhesive works better on a clean surface.

    • 2

Measure the length and height of each wall, and cut pink foam boards to fit. The boards will be installed vertically. Cut the boards by holding a straightedge against the line you want to cut, then scoring the board with a utility knife. Snap the board along the score line, and cut off any jagged edges with the utility knife.

    • 3

Brush the back of the first pink board with Styrofoam adhesive, covering the entire surface.

    • 4

Place the board against the wall in the first corner. Push it firmly against the wall to ensure a tight bond.

    • 5

Install the panels along the rest of the basement walls, using the same method.

    • 6

Install a second row of pink foam boards on top of the boards in the first row, if necessary. If you need to add a second row, stagger the boards in the second row so that the joints between them do not line up with the joints between the boards in the first row.

    • 7

Cover the joints between the pink foam boards with installation tape.
