How to Shovel a Driveway

Driving on a snowy driveway can be difficult, especially if the driveway is hilly. You can reduce sliding and accidents by shoveling your driveway. You don't have to shovel your driveway immediately after the first snowfall. Waiting a few hours after the snow falls can keep you from redoing the job.

Instructions

    • 1

Dress warmly before heading outdoors. Start at the top of the driveway. Bend your knees slightly as you scoop up each shovelful of snow.

    • 2

Move out of the driveway and onto your lawn or any stril of land beside the driveway.

    • 3

Work your way down the driveway, scooping up excess snow as you go and throwing it to the side. Repeat this step until all the snow is removed.

    • 4

Sprinkle salt evenly over your driveway to keep ice from forming. Special salt for melting snow and ice can be purchased at the hardware store.
