How to Resurface Concrete Carports

Preparation

  Chip off loose concrete with a hammer and chisel from the edges or surface of the concrete pad.

  Wash the surface of the concrete with a concrete wash solution and a pressure washer.

  Mix the concrete resurfacer with water to a consistency of peanut butter in a bucket. Spoon the mixture onto any low spots, cracks, gouges, or holes. Smooth over with a trowel. Allow the material to dry for 24 hours.

Resurfacing

  Erect forms around the edges of the concrete and along joints. Work only on one area at a time. Each area should not exceed a 12-foot square section. Place furring strips, 2-by-2 wood strips, along the edges of the area. Secure the strips to the ground with wood stakes. Secure the strips to the surface of the concrete with duct tape. Make sure the tape does not cover the work area.

  Spray the entire surface until the cement is visibly wet. Squeegee off any standing water.

  Mix the cement resurfacer to a consistency of syrup. The mixture will be poured out to a 1/4- to 1/2-inch thickness. Stir the mixture in a bucket until there are no lumps.

  Pour the cement resurfacer onto the existing pad. Continue filling the area until the mixture is 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick across the whole surface.

  Smooth the surface with a long-handled squeegee. Cover the area with a tarp to keep it dry. Allow the material to dry for one week before attempting to stain or paint the surface.
