Concrete Preconstruction Checklist

Creating concrete structures and surfaces is a complicated and time-consuming job, with most of the work taking place before the actual construction process. A thorough construction checklist will allow you to properly prepare for the entire construction process, which will prevent costly mistakes and ensure a quality product.
  1. Site Information

    • Site information is crucial to the construction process. It is needed in every step of the process, including the design engineering and scheduling suppliers and the crew. Information needed includes the address, property entrance description, water sources, electrical outlets, hazards and ordinances. This information will ensure the product and crew can find the site and utilize all of its resources.

    Construction Plans

    • A detailed plan and diagram of the construction project should be available to the crew and owner. The plans should include the blueprints, which detail the actual concrete that will be poured including boundaries, depths and features. A detailed list of all necessary supplies for building the forms and pouring the concrete will ensure everything is accounted for that is necessary to complete the project. The plans should also have all suppliers listed with delivery dates as well as any inspections that are needed from the local building inspector.

    Concrete Information

    • The correct concrete for the project you are building is essential to the integrity and quality of the finished product. There are a variety of concrete types and additives that offer a wide range of properties and uses. You can consult the concrete supplier and work out which mix will be optimum for your project. Calculate the amount of mix needed and schedule the concrete from the supplier as far in advance as possible to get a prime appointment time.

    Crew and Tools

    • A crew is necessary to pour and finish the concrete in a timely manner. It should include enough workers to successfully finish the project, with at least two workers needed for most projects. They should be scheduled in advance and be aware of the project starting date and when the concrete is scheduled to be delivered so they have the forms and tools ready. The crew must possess all necessary tools to complete the job or they must be arranged through a rental company to be at the job site during the construction process.
