# How to Bore Under Concrete Slab for Water Pipe
It may be necessary, from time to time, to install underground water pipes on your property, perhaps to provide a watering system for a new garden. If your route is blocked by a concrete walkway or driveway, you'll have to bore underneath it to provide a route while preserving your concrete slab. A garden hose and a shovel may be all you need for this task.
Things You'll Need
- Shovel
- Water supply
- Garden hose
- 3/4-inch steel pipe with adapter
- 3/4-inch to 1/2-inch reducer

Dig access holes at both sides of the slab, using the shovel. Be sure the two match up exactly and are large enough for you to stand in and to allow room to feed the rigid steel pipe under the slab. Dig below the concrete and any underlayment, such as gravel, to get to the soil level.

Attach a length of steel pipe as long as the slab is wide to the garden hose. Attach the reducer at the other end of the pipe to build up water pressure.

Turn on the water and gently start feeding the pipe into the access trench. As it blasts away soil, continue to feed it until it breaks through into the opposite trench.
