How to Block a Driveway to Install a Paver Walkway

You must block your driveway to install pavers -- either on the driveway or a walkway -- to prevent vehicles from driving on the pavers before they are ready. Usually, when installing pavers, you will paint the pavers with a sealant that you cannot drive on, or walk on, for at least 24 hours. Properly blocking your driveway will ensure that your pavers have time to settle into place and for the sealant to properly seal.

Instructions

    • 1

Line the edge of your driveway with buckets to block vehicles from pulling into your driveway. Fill the buckets with sand or water to weigh them down and to help prevent them from blowing over.

    • 2

Hammer a stick into the ground on each side of the driveway, then tie a neon strap, or neon colored rope, from one stick across to the other. The bright colored rope, or strap, will alert drivers not to pull into your driveway.

Rent, or purchase, brightly colored road cones and line your driveway with the cones. The cones are available in bright orange, red or yellow and you can easily line your driveway with them. The cones are made of a heavy rubber that will prevent them from falling over in the wind.
