How to Set Concrete with a Gloss Finish

There are concrete finishing solutions on the market now, which actually give your concrete a “glossy” appearance. This allows your concrete to gleam or glow as though it has been polished or shined. This adds a beauty to the concrete floor that you never thought was possible.Concrete finishing solutions should always be applied to “roughened” or “etched” concrete. This will ensure that the solution will adhere to the concrete.

Things You'll Need

  • Concrete sealant that is specified as providing a “high-gloss” “clear” “shiny” “wet” or similar type finish
  • Pump or airless sprayer (for applying first coat)
  • Brushes, rollers, pads or other applicators (for applying additional coats)

Instructions

    • 1

Open the concrete sealant and stir it thoroughly. Make sure you stir the product from the bottom to the top, so that it will be uniformly mixed.

    • 2

Read the directions on the container to see if the product needs to be thinned. If it does, follow the directions on how much water to add to achieve the proper consistency.

    • 3

Pour the sealant into the sprayer you will be using. “Prime” the sprayer so that it will release the product evenly, with no spurting, hesitation, or other problems.

    • 4

With the sprayer nozzle adjusted to the widest stream possible, apply the first coat of sealant. Use broad, sweeping strokes, and keep the sprayer nozzle moving. Apply sealant just until it begins to look thoroughly wet. (See WARNINGS for more details.)

Allow the first coat to dry, and then apply a second coat. At this time, you may use another type of applicator, such as a brush, roller, or pad. If you use a pump or airless sprayer again, you will still have to smooth the product evenly using an alternate application method.
