How to Remove Blacktop

Blacktop is used in many different applications, from roads to parking lots to driveways. It is a very durable material that can take abuse from the weather and vehicles for many years. Still, like everything, time can take its toll on blacktop. It will start to become rough and uneven and you may need to replace it. To do so you will need to remove the old blacktop. • 2

Cut 12-by-12-inch squares into the blacktop using a hammer drill with a chisel bit. This will weaken the blacktop.

Break up the squares with a jackhammer. Continue to jackhammer the blacktop until is is reduced to rubble.

    • 4

Shovel the larger pieces of rubble into a wheelbarrow and dispose of it into the trash bin.

    • 5

Gather the smaller blacktop debris with a metal rake and move it into the trash bin.
