Secure a 3/32-inch drill bit in the chuck of a drill. Align the tip of the drill with one of the mounting holes punched in the mounting flange of the door-side flange of the Z-bar. Insert the tip of a supplied screw in the hole. Turn the screw clockwise with a #2 Phillips-head screwdriver until tight. Repeat the process with each Z-bar mounting hole. Install the lock-side Z-bar using the described method

Measure the distance from the top of the doorframe and the threshold with a tape measure. Subtract 1/8 inch from the measurement. Mark the measurement on both installed Z-bars with a pencil.

Install an 18 tpi saw blade on a hacksaw. Cut both Z-bars to length, by working the hacksaw slowly. Cutting fast can cause the saw blade to jump and damage the face of the bars. Remove the cutting burr, by sliding a flat file across the end of each Z-bar.
