How to Install a Pneumatic Door Closure

Pneumatic door closers attach to the inside edge of your screen, or in some cases, your main door. Pneumatic pumps use trapped air or liquid to slow the closing process, prevent slams, and gently bring the door to the closed position. Mounting a pneumatic door closer on your existing door requires a bit of DIY skill and a few basic tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the manufacturer's paper stencils to the mounting surface with tape. These outlines will provide a guide for installing the mounting screws and hardware placement during the installation process. For pneumatic closers, the mounting areas are found at the top of the door on the inside and the inside facing door frame trim.

    • 2

Use your power drill and bit to make pilot holes in the surface of the door and the door frame, as directed by the manufacturer's directions for your specific brand and type of pneumatic door closer. When all the holes have been drilled, remove the paper stencils.

    • 3

Place the pneumatic closer unit onto the door frame mounting surface where the corresponding paper stencil was removed. The screw holes and mounting areas should match up. Use your screwdriver and the screws provided by the manufacturer, to fasten the unit to the door surface.

    • 4

Mount the main closer arm to the door surface using the screws provided. Use your screwdriver to install the second portion of the arm joint to the bottom of the pneumatic unit. Turn the secondary arm until it makes contact with the arm you have mounted on the door surface. Use your screwdriver and the hardware provided to attach the two halves of your pneumatic arm together.

    • 5

Slip the pneumatic unit housing over the pneumatic unit until it locks in place.
