How to Rotate the Slide of a Pella Sliding Glass Door

Pella offers a range of sliding glass doors for your home. Once installed, you may decide the sliding door, sometimes called a slider or vent panel, is better suited on the other side. To rotate the slider, you will need to take both the slider and stationary panel out and secure things on opposite sides. While only a couple of screws hold everything in place, have someone assist you with the heavy door panels to prevent damaging them.

Instructions

    • 1

Unlock the stationary panel. Close the slider completely from within. Locate the screws holding the stationary panel in place on the door jam as well as the bottom and top tracks. Unscrew these and remove any latch holding the panel in place.

    • 2

Remove the stationary panel by grasping it and pushing it up and outside from the bottom.

    • 3

Unscrew the slider bumper at the top of the door and the retaining screw and bumper along the bottom with a screwdriver.

    • 4

Pull out the slider by pressing the door upwards and directing the bottom toward the outside. Remove the hardware for the door handle and lock on the slider.

    • 5

Rotate the door turning it from left to right 180 degrees. This means the inside is now the outside with the positions of top and bottom sections not altered.

    • 6

Replace the hardware on what is now the inside of the door. The Pella frame will have locking mechanisms on both sides for easy rotation of slider and stationary panels.

    • 7

Put the slider back on its track sliding it up first then pushing the bottom into the back track. Slide it to the new position.

    • 8

Slide the stationary panel in place on the new side on the front track. Push it up into the top track and then slide it into place along the bottom.

    • 9

Screw the stationary panel in place along the jam and along the top and bottom tracks in the pre-drilled holes. Replace the slider bumpers along the top track and the retaining screw along the bottom track for the slider panel.
