How to Fix Sliding Door Rollers

Sliding doors run along a track when opening and closing. The track keeps the door in place while it is sliding along. Rollers are in place at the base and top of the door to move the sliding door along the track. When the rollers are worn out, dirty or need a grease, the door may stick, not wanting to open or close. Always remember to look at the owner's manual for the door to find the correct removal method for your model.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift up on the door, if it is bottom supported, so that the bottom of the door is slightly above the bottom track. Pull the door forward so that it is angled and slide the door out of place. Lift a top-hung door once you have aligned the notches on the track and the door and angle it out to clear the rollers through the notches and remove the door.

    • 2

Inspect the rollers and clean out any dirt or debris that may be clinging to them using a rag.

    • 3

Spray the rollers with a lubricant and test the rolling with your finger. They should move loose and freely.

    • 4

Inspect the track and clean out any dirt or debris using a rag. Also inspect the track for any bends that may prevent the roller from moving freely along. Bend the track back into place carefully, moving the metal slowly.

    • 5

Place the door back into place and test the movement of the rollers.
