Determine the type of door so the proper number of flush bolts can be installed. Entry doors usually consist of two flush bolts: one for the top and another for the bottom. They are spread equally apart from the top and bottom.
Measure the size of the door on the jamb side and mark lightly with a pencil directly in the center of the door. Measure 2 feet up from the center and mark there. This is where the top flush bolt will be installed. Measure 2 feet down from the center and make a mark. This is where the bottom flush bolt will go.
Chisel out a spot in the jamb for the flush bolt at both the top and bottom of the door. Use a hammer and the template provided to make the correct size spot for the base plate to be installed.
Drill a hole in the door with a hole saw at the recommended spot according to the manufacturer. Repeat the process for the lower bolt. Drill holes into the door jamb with a drill bit at the desired spots where the screws will go. Set the base plate firmly in the chiseled out hole and install the screws into the pre-drilled holes. Repeat the process for the bottom base plate.
Position the flush bolt onto the door and make sure it sits properly. If not, chisel it out a little more. Pre-drill screws in the desired spots and then line up the bolt and screw it in tightly. Repeat the process for the bottom flush bolt.
Open and close the door to make sure it is working. Latch the bolt and verify that they are tightly secure to ensure everything is working properly.
