Deadbolt Cylinder Installation

Keeping a home safe has a variety of options, including adding additional locks on the front door. With the added security, a theft may still not be impossible, but police departments often suggest to the public the thief might think twice about breaking in.
  1. Identification

    • A deadbolt is a lock that employs a large bolt, which protrudes out into the door frame locking area to deter thieves. Provided that there is a lock cut out on the particular door already, installation of a deadbolt is relatively quick and simple.

    Installation

    • First, place the deadbolt assembly within the door cavity. Keeping the deadbolt protruding outward, attach the outside lock cylinder to the deadbolt. Then, install the mounting plate and turning dial on the inside of the door. Afterward, use the protruding deadbolt to align with the door frame to install the striking pad that normally houses the locked position of the deadbolt.

    Considerations

    • If there is not a cut out for the deadbolt already, a drill will be needed to cut out the appropriate space needed.
