How do I Install Storage Building Roller Garage Doors?

Installing roller garage doors on your storage building is a wise convenience choice and a great improvement in securing what you have stored. Unlike standard swing doors, even the steel ones, roller garage doors present more of a challenge to thieves and create more delay. These roller garage doors are, just as their name implies, installed on a frame and move on rollers within that frame. The key to smoothly functioning roller garage doors is the frame installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of the opening into which you want to install the roller garage door. Remove the guides and door hardware from boxes and lay them on the side of the door onto which they will be mounted. Separate out the hardware and fasteners, making sure they are all there.

    • 2
Sorting the hardware before you start will save installation time.

Organize the parts from the hardware packet into the order they will be used. Install the head stops onto the guides loosely at first. Do not tighten completely. The guides need to be loose to give enough clearance to spin the door and drop it down on the guides. Install the mounting bracket bolts into the guide, and bolt the mini bracket to the guide.

    • 3

Mount the mini brackets on the ends of the rolled door assembly. Slide the bracket onto the axle, insert a cotter pin, and bend the pin into place. Do the same to the other end of the rolled door assembly.

Attaching the frame is the key to a straight, correctly functioning roller garage door.

Stand the door up into its marked-off install space. Step inside the frame of the door, grasp the rolled door assembly with one hand and the frame with the other, as a helper does the same with the other end of the door. Lift up and over your head, as you step through the frame, turn and lean the door into its mounting location.

    • 5

Check the door for guide spacing and bracket spacing for sufficient clearance. Attach mini brackets to the wall. Once the guides are all installed, remove the shipping wrap from the rolled door assembly.

A sharp utility knife will make short work of all the shipping paper.

Run a sharp utility knife starting at the corner and along the bottom bar to avoid scratching the finished surface of the door itself. Pre-tension the door by turning it three complete rotations from left to right while it is still rolled up. Hold the door in place at the third turn and cut the retaining bands.

    • 7

Pull back the head stops installed loosely before, and fit the door into the guides at each end. Now, tighten the head stops securely with your impact wrench. Roll the door completely down and remove the remaining packing material.

Nylon rope is a durable, hard-to-break service rope.

Roll the door back up halfway and install the door stop plates on each side of the door that engages the head stops when the door is in the open position. Install the pull rope and lift handle in the center of the door.
