How to Hang Cafe Doors

Mount the top pivot pin brackets to the top of each cafe door panel. Mount the bracket centered in the door thickness, at the outer edge and aligned with the correct pivot pin setback. The pivot pin setback can be determined by measuring the distance from the mounting face of the top jamb pivot bracket to the center of the bracket's pivot hole. Typically, the pivot pins centerline is 1/2 inch from the door's edge.

Mount the bottom pivot pin brackets to the bottom of each cafe door panel. Mount the bracket centered in the door thickness and aligned with the correct pivot pin setback. Again, the typical pivot pin centerline is 1/2 inch from the door's edge and aligns with the top pivot pin centerline.

Measure the door jamb's width and mark the vertical center point on both sides of the doorway opening. Extend this vertical center line slightly beyond the approximate top and bottom of the cafe door's position in the opening using a level. Mark lightly to determine the door hinge locations only and keep the line erasable.

Define the desired overall height of the cafe doors and mark the lower pivot hinge locations on the jamb centerline established in Step 3.

Hold the bottom pivot hinge against the jamb surface on either side, centered on the jamb centerline, and mark the screw hole centers on the jamb using an awl or center punch to create a pivot point for the screws.

Measure vertically from the floor surface to match the bottom pivot hinge location on the opposite jamb and repeat Step 5 to mark the hinge screw locations.

Install the bottom pivot hinges on both sides of the opening with the screws provided using a screwdriver.

Set the bottom pivot pin on the cafe door for either side into the bottom pivot hinge. Swing the cafe door to the open position in either direction and align the top pivot pin with the vertical centerline marked on the jamb.

Place the top pivot hinge over the pivot pin on the door and align the hinge mounting plate with the centerline marked on the jamb. Align the vertical centerline of the hinge with the jamb centerline marked in Step 3 and mark the hinge's screw hole centers using an awl or center punch.

Move the cafe door to the closed position, verify the door is plumb using a level and install the top pivot hinge with the screws provided.

Repeat Steps 8, 9 and 10 for the other cafe door. Close both doors when mounted to check the gap between the door edges. This gap should be approximately 1/8 to 3/16 inch and consistent from top to bottom. Adjust the doors, if necessary, by loosening the bottom pivot adjustment screw on either bottom hinge.
