How to Install Bi-Fold Door Knobs

Bi-fold doors are a popular option for pantries, room separation and closets. The bi-fold doors pivot at the side and fold neatly against the jamb for full access through the door opening, without protruding into the room like a conventional swing door. The final step in the installation of your new bi-fold doors is installing the door knobs, and the simple procedure can be adapted to bi-fold doors of any size.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure vertically 36 inches from the base of the pivot door on its hinged side (not the side that pivots to open the door) and the mark the middle point of the vertical frame of the door, referred to as the "stile." This will be the center point for the bi-fold door knob.

    • 2

Bore a 5/32-inch hole through the vertical door frame at the knob center point marked in Step 1.

    • 3

Slip the knob screw through the hole drilled in Step 2, from the back side, and thread the knob onto the screw. Hold the screw in place using a screwdriver and hand-tighten the knob until the base is firmly held against the door surface.

Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 for the other door in a double door installation, if applicable.
