Drill and countersink the holes in the jambs directly behind the center of where the door stop will be. Position your holes 4 inches down from the top of the jamb, 4 inches up from the bottom and 12 inches apart. One hole is all that is required for the head jamb.
Measure the side jambs. Jambs extending 1 inch past the bottom of the door will provide 1 inch of floor clearance. Vinyl, tile or hardwood floors require jambs that sit on the finished floor. Carpeted floors may require raising the jambs or trimming the door.
Install the head jamb using a wood or drywall screw driven through your pre-drilled hole.
Screw the side jambs to the head jamb using drywall or wood screws.
Remove the hinge pins to separate the two hinge halves. Install the hinge halves to the door and the corresponding jam using the hardware supplied with the hinge package.
Secure the hinge side jamb to the stud using wood shims and a level where necessary to ensure the jamb is straight and level.
Hang the door to the side jamb by replacing the hinge pins. Line the door up with the jambs. Loosen the hinge screws to adjust the shims as necessary. Re-tighten the hinge screws.
Drive in all of the jamb screws using an electric drill with appropriate screw bit attached. Cut off protruding shims with a utility knife.
Install a lockset according to package directions.
