Installation Instructions for a Pneumatic Door Closer

A pneumatic door closer is a type of technology used to control the closing of a door. These are typically used on exterior doors and use air pressure to automatically close and latch a door once it has been opened. This prevents the door from being opened too wide and damaging the wall and closes the door in a slow controlled movement, maintaining safety and preventing slamming.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that the door can be opened and closed freely. Remove or adjust any skirts on the base of the door that drag on the ground. Decide whether you would like to install the closer on the top or middle rail of the door.

    • 2

Fasten the jamb bracket to the door frame with the open side of the bracket 1/4 inch away from the door. If you desire more closing force then you can move the jamb bracket up to 1 inch from the door.

    • 3

Slide the hold open washer onto the rod of the closer arm. Insert this end of the closer arm into the jamb --- frame --- bracket. Fasten the closer arm in place with the provided short connecting pin.

    • 4

Insert the other end of the closer arm into the door bracket front hole. Fasten the closer arm in place with the provided long connecting pin.

    • 5

Close the door tightly. Hold the closer and and door bracket against the door in a level position. Mark the spot, then drill two 1/8-inch pilot holes. Fasten the bracket to the door using these holes.

    • 6

Adjust the speed of the closer using the adjustment screw on the closer. Typically it is clockwise turns to slow the speed of the door and counter-clockwise to allow it more freedom.
