How to Install a Bedroom Doorknob

Bedroom doorknobs are similar to any other doorknob. You can choose to have one that comes with a lock or without a lock, depending on how much privacy you desire. Installation of bedroom doorknobs will be the same as if you were installing a bathroom doorknob or a closet doorknob. Once you have installed one doorknob, you will be able to do so again and again.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old doorknob by unscrewing the two screws on the back of the knob's base plate. Pull the knobs apart to free them from the door. Use your screwdriver as leverage to push the bolt out the side of the door.

    • 2

Place the new bolt into the side of the door. Make sure the curved side of the bolt's tongue is facing in the direction in which the door closes. Trace around the bol'ts face plate with a pencil. Use a wood chisel to carve out the area where the plate will be sitting. You will need to carve out enough for the plate to sit flush with the door.

    • 3

Place the bolt back into the side of the door and secure it in place with the provided screws. Place the knob with the lock (if you have one) through the hole on the inside of the door. Make sure the prongs go through the holes in the bolt.

Center the other knob over the lock knob's prongs and push into place. Secure both knobs to the door with the supplied screws.

    • 5

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the strike plate to the door jamb. Place the new strike plate over the old screw holes and secure it in place with the provided screws.
