Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of the rough opening for both the height and width of the door. Record the measurements so the proper size door can be purchased.

    • 2

Set the door in the opening from the outside of the house and hold a level vertically along either side of the door to make sure it's plumb and square. Move the door out and apply two beads of silicone caulk along the bottom of the door frame at the sill.

    • 3

Center the door in the opening and tip it into place. Insert shims into the gaps between the door jamb and the frame at each hinge and lock set location. Add shims every 12-inches around the frame. Check again to make sure it is level.

    • 4

Insert two deluxe fasteners at each hinge location into the jamb to secure the door in place. Open and close the door to make sure it is operating properly. Remove two screws from each hinge and replace them with long anchor screws to further secure the door for hurricane protection.

Nail the brick mold to the frame along the outside of the house with a nailer. Insert a nail every six inches across the top and down each side. Adjust the threshold along the bottom of the door with a drill until the door opens smoothly. Cut the shims flush with the frame with a utility knife. Fill all gaps and nail holes with silicone and verify that the door is level. Open and close the door once again to make sure it is working properly.
