How to Install an Eclipse Door Handle

Like all vehicles, the Mitsubishi Eclipse has door handles on the outside and the inside of the door. You need to be able to access the inside of the door to install either of these handles. You will have to install the handles on a door with its inner trim panel removed. The outer handle contains the door's lock cylinder, so make sure you have the same type of lock cylinder that the other door has, or else you will need different keys for these doors.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the inside handle into its mounting hole in the door and apply its screws with your screwdriver. Connect the control rods for the latch to the handle.

    • 2

Insert the lock cylinder into the outside door handle -- make sure you have the correct key for this lock -- and secure it with the retaining clip on the cylinder.

    • 3

Connect the outer handle and lock assembly to the door and apply its retention screws -- the screws should go on the inner side of the door.

    • 4

Connect the control link and electrical connector to the lock cylinder and inside handle on the door's inside. The electrical connector may not be present on some models.

    • 5

Paste the plastic water deflector onto the inner door using the deflector's own adhesive.

    • 6

Attach the inner trim panel to the door using all of its clips and then apply the panel's mounting screws. Attach all smaller panels, like the door pull and armrest assemblies.

    • 7

Attach the door's manual window crank if it has one, connecting the clip at the back end of the handle.
