How to Cut a Bifold Door to Width

Bi-fold doors are common door coverings for closets and laundry rooms. The doors extend across the entry way and fold when you open them. Like any door, you may need to cut bi-fold doors to ensure they fit into the open space properly. Due to the length of the door, using a circular saw is often a good way to cut the doors quickly and cleanly. You will also need ample space for cutting the door as you need to move around the door when cutting.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the door opening. Transfer the measurement to the door so you can determine how much material you to remove from the door.

    • 2

Use a square to draw a straight guideline for making the appropriate cut.

    • 3

Place the bi-fold door onto a pair of sawhorses. Move the door so the cut line does not interfere with the sawhorses.

    • 4

Ask a friend to hold the door. Turn on the circular saw and line up the cutting guide with your line. Move the saw slowly through the bi-fold door to cut the door to size.

    • 5

Sand the cut edge with sandpaper to smooth the door and remove any burrs.

    • 6

Replace the door into the opening.
