Weiser Lock Handleset Instructions

Black and Decker's premium lock brand, Weiser, manufactures a full range of styles for residential and commercial installation. Their handleset, or thumb button locks for entry doors, feature smart key technology that allows homeowners to rekey their own locks without the assistance of a locksmith. The installation process is simple, but make sure to keep the paper template, as even though almost all new doors are pre-bored, the bottom handle screw hole is rarely pre-drilled.

Instructions

  1. Installation

    • 1

Fold the paper template that came with your handle set over the edge of the door at the proper height. Align the large mortise hole marks with your mortise holes and mark the position of the bottom handle set screw hole.

    • 2

Drill a hole with the recommended bit size (typically 3/16) in the door face for the handle set bottom screw. Drill it all the way through, keeping the drill as level as possible.

    • 3

Insert the striker assembly through the hole in the door's face. Position the collar around the striker bolt on the door's edge and install the two screws that came with the hardware. Insert the deadbolt in the same way through the upper hole and install the mounting screws.

    • 4

Insert the two halves of your handle-set through the holes in the striker bolt assembly. Align the screw holes and insert the mounting screws from the inside face of the door, two at the base of the main handle and one through the bottom. Tighten them with a screwdriver.

    • 5

Fit the deadbolt. Toggle onto the inside of the barrel and install the two mounting screws through its faceplate.

    Rekeying

    • 6

Remove the mounting screws from the inside of the deadbolt faceplate at the top of the door. Remove the inside cover and push the cylinder out of the guard on the outside of the door. Grab the retaining clip, a flat metal tab that sticks up from the lock spindle, with pliers and pull it straight up to remove it. Push on the spindle of the lock to eject the cylinder from its housing.

    • 7

Rotate the lower dial of the reset cradle to the right until it stops. Insert the lock cylinder all the way into the cradle and turn the bottom dial back left half a turn, until it stops. Insert the smart key tool into the small hole near the key slot on the locks faceplate and push it in all the way. Remove the smart key tool.

    • 8

Insert the key you want your lock to "learn" (be rekeyed to) into the cylinder, but do not turn the key. Pull the cylinder from the cradle with the key inside it. Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise and remove the key.

    • 9

Reinsert the cylinder into its housing. Reinstall the retaining clip, sliding it into its position. Insert the housing back into the guard and reinstall the mounting screws through the interior faceplate to fasten the lock in place. Return the door to normal use.
