Open the door. Locate the paper template included in the door lock kit. Wrap the template around the door according to the specifications on the template, then use painter's tape to hold the template in place.
Locate the hole saw that matches the diameter specified in the door lock kit. Install the hole saw in the drill. Put the point in the middle of the hole saw onto the "+" sign in the center of the template. Turn on the drill and apply even pressure to the door until the hole saw comes out the other side of the drill.
Determine what size spade bit you need based on the instructions on the template. Install the spade bit into the drill, then put the tip of the spade bit onto the "+" sign on the door jam section of the template. Drill out a hole using the drill and spade bit.
Place the plate for the bolt mechanism included in the door lock kit into the hole in the door jam. Trace the perimeter of the plate onto the door jam using the utility knife so that the knife scores the door. Remove the plate and use the chisel and hammer to remove the scored section on the door, making the removed section equal to the thickness of the plate. Install the door plate in the door using the Phillips-head screwdriver.
Install the two halves of the keyhole assembly onto the door using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Open and shut the lock to ensure it functions correctly, and open and shut the door so you know the door plate doesn't hit the door.
