Instructions

    • 1

Remove the existing deadbolt set installed in the door, or prepare a new hole for your Schlage BE365 deadbolt. The center of the deadbolt hole should be a minimum of 5 1/2 inches from the center of the door handle set hole below. The center of the deadbolt hole must be either 2 3/8 inches or 2 3/4 inches from the edge of the door. The distance is determined by the measurement of the existing handle set. The size of the hole needed for the deadbolt is 2 1/8 inches.

    • 2

Drill the bolt hole through the side of the door and slide the bolt through the hole. Mark the placement of the bolt plate on the side of the door and remove the bolt from the door. Remove the wood from the side of the door with a wood chisel and a hammer or mallet.

    • 3

Slide the bolt back into the side of the door to check the fit. When the fit is good, fasten the bolt in place with two of the provided screws and an electric drill.

    • 4

Slide the exterior (key) side of the deadbolt set through the bolt set. Be sure the wire passes over the top of the bolt through the door to the interior side of the door.

    • 5

Slide the interior side of the deadbolt into place on the door. The metal rod attached to the exterior side of the deadbolt and the wire should pass through holes on the interior side of the deadbolt.

    • 6

Connect the wire attached to the interior side of the deadbolt to the wire attached to the exterior side of the deadbolt. Insert two screws through the interior side of the deadbolt into the exterior side of the deadbolt and tighten them with an electric drill.

    • 7

Connect a 9-volt battery to the wires on the interior side of the deadbolt. Slide the battery into its compartment near the top of the deadbolt.

    • 8

Slide the interior deadbolt cover into place over the interior side of the deadbolt. Fasten it in place with two screws.

    • 9

Press the "Schlage" button on the exterior side of the deadbolt and turn the deadbolt handle clockwise. If the bolt extends from the side of the door, the deadbolt was installed correctly. If it does not, uninstall the deadbolt and begin the installation process again at Step 3.
